Bernard Hare
Bernard Hare was born in 1958 into a Leeds mining family. He was educated at grammar school and after gaining a BA in Applied Social Sciences at Hatfield Polytechnic, he became a social worker. Dillusioned with the system following the miners’ strike of 1984, he dropped out, working occasionally as a removal man. His novel Urban Grimshaw and the Shed Crew is published by Hodder and Stoughton. His story ‘This Happy Breed of Men’ features in Next Stop Hope.
Jackie Hagan
Jackie Hagan is award winning performance poet, playwright and short story writer. Her first poetry collection ‘Shut your eyes and put out your hand’ was published by Citizen 32 press (2006). She performs across the UK and facilitates creativity sessions for adults.

Lee Harrison
Lee Harrison’s stories and novels, both published and forthcoming, are influenced by his being from Kingston upon Hull. He dabbles as as illustrator, his work can be seen at www.leeharrison.co.uk

Marcia Hutchinson
Marcia Hutchinson is a photographer and writer. Her story ‘Sad Banana’ features in Tubthumping. In 1997 Marcia established Primary Colours to meet a need for high quality culturally diverse educational resources. For more details see www.primarycolours.net
Margaret Rose Handforth
Margaret Rose Handforth was born in Eastfield Lane, near the malt kilns at Castleford during the Second World War. Her father was a coal miner who was left disabled after a roof fall at the pit when he was just 18. Her mother was committed to getting the best education for her children. This is where the seeds were sown for Margaret’s own commitment to lifelong learning. She is the director of Castleford Community Learning Centre.
Peter Hartey
Peter Hartey launched the MAG Poetry Prize in July 2008, which raises funds for the humanitarian organisation Mines Advisory Group. Peter co-founded and runs Poetica, a writing forum based in Central Library, Manchester.

Philip Hancock
Philip Hancock works as a decorator, mainly in London, though he originates from Newchapel, Stoke-on-Trent. He has articles and short stories in previous Route anthologies, including ‘A Damn Good Finish’, which appeared in Next Stop Hope and ‘Mr Sam the Spaceman’ which appeared in Wonderwall. His poems have appeared in: Orbis; The Rialto; Other Poetry; Smoke; South and Smiths Knoll.
Tajinder Singh Hayer
Tajinder Singh Hayer is from Bradford. He has had poems and short stories published in magazines, several short plays put on at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, and has had a short radio drama produced by the BBC. Most recently he has been a writer-in-residence at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. He has completed an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Leeds and also teaches Creative Writing at the University of Bradford. His story ‘Percentages’ appears in Naked City and ‘On the Outside’ features in Route Compendium.
Tania Hershman
Tania Hershman was born in London in 1970 and moved to Jerusalem, Israel, in 1994. Her short stories have won or been shortlisted for various prizes, been published in print and online and broadcast on BBC Radio 4. Her first short story collection, The White Road and Other Stories, is now available from Salt Modern Fiction.
Her stories feature in Wonderwall and Ideas Above Our Station.
