Ramón Chao & Oscar Guardiola-Rivera
Monday  4 October

Ramón Chao and Oscar Guardiola-Rivera in conversation at the SouthBank Centre. This special event, devoted to one of Latin America’s most vibrant yet misunderstood countries, marks the 200th anniversary of independence.

Ramón Chao’s book The Train of Ice and Fire documents the extraordinary journey taken by a group of musicians, acrobats and artists on board a train through a war-riven country in 1993. Colombian philosopher Oscar Guardiola-Rivera’s book What if Latin America Ruled the World? examines the region’s growing influence on the international economic stage. It suggests that, through the growing ascendancy of the Spanish language, the US is becoming the next Latin American country. The two authors discuss Colombia and Latin American culture and politics, and then take questions from the audience.
